When you do something consciously, you do it on purpose after seriously thinking about it.
My name is Angela. My sister Michelle is my inspiration for creating this forum. Michelle suffered a hemorrhagic stroke in 2018 at the age of 38. She is a super survivor! After many months of surgeries, hospital stays, inpatient rehab, in-home therapy and outpatient therapy, Michelle was ready to get back out in the world with her new normal. What we found is a world of restaurants, stores, doctors and dentist offices, parks, theaters, concert venues that say they are accessible, but in reality are… well… a joke!
I believe accessibility is more than checking the boxes to include the bare minimum requirements. It requires a conscious effort to create an environment that is equally accessible to both abled and disabled people. I hope this forum can shed some light to business owners, doctors offices, and the general public about what it takes to create a CONSCIOUSLY ACCESSIBLE space.
